I did this as a Mother’s Day project with preschoolers a couple years ago and had no issues with it smearing after baked in. I would just recommend gently hand washing the mug vs putting it in the dishwasher.
You can bake more than one mug at a time, Personally, I have never done plates, but since it’s the exact same concept, I don’t see how it wouldn’t be successful. Let me know how it goes!
That is neat!
Have you tried it? Does the marker really not smear after baking?

Omg I love this!!! I wonder if I can write as neatly/artistically on a mug!
Do you think the colored sharpies would stay as well as the black does? That would be nifty.
Yes, they work just as well
Such a great gift idea!
What a great idea to make a plain mug into something unique!
Love!!!
Definitely trying this sometime soon! Great Idea
Super cute!
love it…did you just “bake” the mugs on a cookie sheet. can you do more than one mug at a time? thinking this would be good for plates too….

Hi there…I tried this and after it cooled, I tried gently washing it and washed right off…Did I do something wrong?
Really?? That’s weird. Was it sharpie brand of permanent marker…that’s the only one I can really vouch for.
Yes, it was a permanent Sharpie. Maybe I’ll open a new one and try it..Thanks for sharing it’s a fantastic idea:)
tried it again with a newer marker….It WORKED! Thanks so much:)
YAY! Glad it worked
